Hey ppl,
I am new to this forum n i though probably i could use ya expertise in buying a HT system. I have a budget of abt $3k. Initially i was looking at the bose lifestyle 38 system. it was the form factor that impressed me. nevertheless after reading the reviews out here i understand that i can buy better systems for a lesser price. basically ma requirements are

1. a 7.1 system preferrably
2. i have no clue abt the receivers
3. do i need to purchase a new dvd system to enhance the sound quality
4. i basically need speakers that can be hooked onto the wall which means they should be decently sized.
5. as i am gonna keep it in ma living room,i need something thats gonna be good enough for the room which is abt 400 sq ft.....

ma main criterion is form factor and outstanding system performance ...i don mind shelling out more if its worth it....

If you want to do a subwoofer/satellite speaker system to get you close to the same form factor as the Bose look at those that j_garcia mentioned as well as Definitive Technologies, Energy, Paradigm, maybe even Klipsch.:)

If you do pick up one of these sub/sat systems it is likely you won't need anymore receiver than this one.

http://www.us.onkyo.com/model.cfm?m=TX-SR605&class=Receiver&p=i

It goes for around $400-$500 online and in stores.

What DVD player do you have now, what kind of display are you using? A DVD player upgrade depends more so on what display is used rather than the sound system. DVD players output surround sound to a receiver by a digital connection that pretty much 99% of DVD players have, you will get essentially the same top notch sound regardless of the DVD player.

It may be beneficial to consider in-wall speakers as well, if this is a permanent setup.:)

edit: I wanted to add this system as a very good wall mountable solution. The speakers are larger, but in all likelihood sound better and I know the subwoofer sounds better than most any sub/sat system in this budget.:D

Mirage omnisat v2's

get 5 of these:

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?showAll=N&g=37900&i=653OMST2S&tp=186

and an HSU or SVS sub (Mirage makes a good sub also)

I use the omnisats for my mains (will be getting more to complete my system) and I am very satisfied with them. They can play louder than you would think without breaking up and have a very large soundstage. They are also very well built using brushed aluminum cases and not plastic. They come with bracket for wall mounting (mine are wall mounted).

price

Yes but they are good speakers and well built. Might be able to look around and find cheaper someplace else. They do put out more than you think they would.
