Hi, I need help on how to hook my stuff up in order to get the best out of of my new receiver.

I have one 52" KDL-52XBR4 LCD television
I have one Onkyo 606 Reciever.

This is what I'd like to hook up if possible.
1 PS3 (I have the hdmi cables to hook it to the receiver and tv)
1 Nintendo Wii (I have component cables for this)
1 Ps2 (I have component cables for this)
1 VCR (have composite cables for this, no s-video output on it)
Those are the components I really want to hook up

What follows is optional devices that if can be hooked up that would be great, if not then I'm not worried about it
1 Nintendo64 (have s-video cable for this)
1 Super Nintendo (have composite cables for this)
Thats pretty much it.

If someone could explain to me out of my devices how many can be hooked up, how they should be hooked up (i.e. which type of cable, which input on the receiver, assign which input on the receiver to each component...etc) I have now wasted my weekend trying to set this thing up and where before my ps3 handled most everything (at least for dvd and bd) it has become a huge headache. Another question, does the Sony KDL-52XBR4 do any upconverting on analog signals? I've tried plugging my super nintendo directly into the back of my tv and when I put on a game, the tv won't show what resolution the screen is when I press display on the remote. Anyone that could help me with this will get my eternal gratitude and a cyber candybar.

Thanks in advance.

Ok, after much hair pulling and creating, converting to, and brief worship of the God of Indirect Revenge...I believe I finally got things figured out and hooked up how I wanted them. I figured the connections would pretty straight forward as they were on my tv. For example my tv has 3 composites, 2 component, 3 hdmi and so on. You plug something into one of them and thats it, no having to assign the connection after wards to an input. So of course, the number of connections and combinations dropped as my wife and I figured out that the number of connections did not match up to the number of possible device connections. But we finally got it done.

PS3 on HDMI 1 assigned to DVD (although when selecting dvd multichannel there's no sound through it)
Nintendo Wii on game/tv via component 1
Playstation 2 on cbl/sat via component 2 and audio via optical 2
VCR on vcr/dvr via composite connection
Older game systems Nintendo64 and Super Nintendo now relegated to being connected to the front Aux port when anyone wants to play them.

The 606 has enough inputs on the back of the unit for everything you listed that you wanted to hook, even the optional ones. If you hooked everything to the Onkyo and then ran 1 HDMI cable to the TV you wouldn't need to worry about switching inputs on the TV or using the front aux input. The product page for that 606 lists that is does Analog to HDMI so you shouldn't have any problems setting it up that way. They all you need to do is select the input on the Onkyo and away you go. Only down side(if you see it as one) to this is that you will you the receiver all the time and not use the TV speakers for anything.

What speakers, 4,6,or 8 ohm?

b00tleg,

I'm looking at buying the Onkyo 606 too,or maybe the 705,or 706, yep, I've been mulling it over and over. But wanted to know if you got everyhing hooked up and how you like your system. There have been talk on some other forums on what ohm speakers to use with these AVR receivers.
I myself, thought of using only 8-ohm speakers, but other people are asking if they can mix both 4 and 6 ohm speakers???? Do you know what ohm your speakers are and what brand did you get? Thanks! I'm still looking at some good speakers...too many to choose from.

I did get everything hooked up and the reciever works great. I got the reciever in the onkyo htib ht s7100 so I got it with the 7.1 speaker setup which is also good. The speakers are well....I'd be willing to say they are decent enough, definitely not as good as buying actual component speakers but they do good enough for now. Unfortunately I haven't done any research into which ohm speaker would work best with the 606.

I'm also dealing with a new issue, now that I got everything hooked up, when trying to use my super nintendo connected to the reciever via the front aux port, I get sound but no video. I know my tv supports the super nintendo as it works fine connected directly to the tv, just no upscaling going on. If I set the upscaler on the receiver to auto, passthrough, or 1080i I just get a msg on my tv screen saying "unsupported signal, check your device output". If I set the upscaler to 480p or 720p I get just a second or two of video from the super nintendo before the screen goes blank with no msg on the screen. I've also hooked up my nintendo 64 to the aux port and the reciver displays video from that both upscaled and non upscaled.
