hi folks,

pardon me if this sounds like a stupid question. i have a 5.1 philips dvd player which i have connected to my aiwa vcd system as auxilory and enjoying two channel movie sound. since i want to get a proper avr and a set of 5.1 speakers ,and not in a position to go for them right now, i did some experimenting. i have a marantz stereo amp pm44se. i tried to connect the rear sorround outs of the dvp to the amp and connected my old philip speakers . but the speakers were as silent as the hills. what am i doing wrong here? cant i get the sorround sounds thro my amp?
thank u
cheers
shri

Dolby 5.1

Remember that playing a DVD's 5.1 channel Dolby or DTS sound track requires a digital coax or optical connection from the DVD player to the receiver. With the analog red and white plugs, you will only get 2-channel audio.
If you already have the digital connection, you may need to use the receiver's setup menu to tell it that the surround channels are enabled.
