A newb set-up question...

Alright I have a 10-15 year old Magnavox Tv. It works great and its nice to even have a tv. Only problem is it only has the RF Coax jack and Id like to set it up to my home theater.

I have a Denon 985 receiver and I have an RF Modulator and could possibly obtain a VCR if needed. Id like to set up the sound through the Receiver and if possible have the tv be accesible to all components hooked up to my receiver.

Any help would be great. Thanks

the best way is to use the lowest common denominator method.

connect all sources to your Denon receiver using composite video (yellow RCA plug) connections. This is the best signal your VCR will output and virtually all DVD players come with that as well.

Now, at the Denons "Monitor out" (or whatever it's labelled) you would connect the RF modulator. this will convert that composite video into an RF signal for your TV. RF is the lowest possible signal quality there is but when you have no choice, you make lemonaid.

You may want to consider relpacing that TV with something fairly quickly. even that yellow composite video signal is light years better than an RF signal.

You mean the one from the cable TV company? you may need an inexpensive 75 ohm A/B box with "F" connector inputs to select between the cable and receiver's output. See your local radio shack or wal-mart for these.

connect it to the vcr RF-in jack, and you will have to use your vcr as your tuner, and basically your TV will just become a monitor

Go with spiffy's Idea, Coax into a VCR then you can use the RCA out for the audio to the receiver, and the coax out to the TV. That way you dont need another RF converter. You can probably get a used VCR cheap if not free, but make sure to get a stereo VCR.
