OK I have a problem with my old system I moved into my bedroom when I got my RX-V2500 and speakers for my new HT.

Hey guys hope you are all doing well today, sitting here and listening to a little Doobie Brothers Greatest Hits on my new system, sounds great. :)

OK, OK to the problem I know. I moved my Kenwood HTiB (VR615 receiver and 5 satellites and a passive Kenwood sub) into my bedroom with my 32" Sony Trinitron (WooHoo surround in both rooms now) but after hooking it up I started to hear a constant high pitched hum or whine, many of us have been there. Now I only really hear it when watching TV as I have my volume on this receiver @ -20 and it only goes down to -10 from like -80 or so. For some reason that is how I have to have it to get the good balance of sound. So I have the volume up and the hum is relative to volume level. When watching a DVD I DO NOT HEAR IT. Just watched "Troy" Saturday night and "Tried" to hear it @ -40 but could not.

Read the article on ground loops, carefully disconnected everything, one at a time changed where things were plugged in. Finally just had the receiver plugged into the wall socket then another and the same thing? Frustrating to say the least. Checked all speaker wires, all ok. Disconnected speakers one at a time and cha-ching disconnected the passive sub and the hum was gone????? What the hay?

OK maybe the wire is bad right? Changed to some new higher end speaker wire, same thing!!!! OK when the wire is in the back of the receiver no problem, but as soon as I connect it to the sub, the high pitched hum or whine almost, immediately comes back. Took out my high end multi-meter and checked the resistance in the speaker and it measure 7.4 ohms with the wire attached.

1. What is going on?
2. I have this sub running only with speaker wire as it is a passive sub, I did notice a slight difference in the hum sound level if I played around with the connection point at the back of the receiver, but not much.
3. My plan is to just get another small active sub (this is in the bedroom in our condo which backs up to another condos' bedroom so not to loud boys) and I believe this will fix the problem
4. I know we are all into the high-end subs and I am in love with my Velodyne in my HT room but do toy guys see anything wrong with a cheaper Sony etc. from e-bay for a little used position considering the placement (in the bedroom) I really cant justify another $400+ for another sub. I just spent over $3K for my home system.

What do any of you guys think of the Klipsch small RW-8 8" powered sub or something equivalent, remember I do not want to spend a lot of money so I am really looking for suggestions from you guys for a good reliable sub and I think an 8" active will still be a good bit more than what I have now. Let me know and sorry for the long winded post. This thing is making me nuts!!!!!

60hz is the frequency. That is why you hear it in the sub. So, are you on cable? If so, disconnect the cable from the system. See if hum is gone. If it is, then it's from the cable. Then you need to order the cable isolator here. Higher quality unit VRD-1FF here.

As I stated in the orig. post I eventually had everything disconnected, and found it to be the passive sub to be causing the interference or feedback. I had everything else disconnected from the receiver and wall jack. It is the sub causing this. I really just wanted to know if anybody has ever heard of a passive sub doing this and what would be a good 8 or 10" replacement as the receiver does have a sub out coax connectoin.
