Just to add a bit more to what Nick is asking for, speakers and room acoustics makes the most difference in audio; software quality is included there.:D

Have you looked around and listened to what may be available there?
Isn't this world wide reach, instantly great? :D

Your best bet for getting good advice and suggestions is to start the search on your own then post your observations here asking for input.
Most have no idea what is available in the land of the Kiwi's.
You have not given us a budget, nor speaker needs/desires...do you want free standing, floor standing fronts, wall mounted, etc. You have not said if you want or need HDMI on your receiver or do you want seperates? What are your room dimensions, are there windows...how many and where...is this a dedicated media room or the family room...what is the flooring material...etc.

Much is missing from you original post.
My suggestion is take several of your favorite cd's, a variety of your listening types and are very familiar with, plus a couple of favorite movie dvd's because even if not purchasing a new tv it is important to hear how 5.1, etc. from a movie comes across on the speakers...it is not always the same as a music cd.
Once you have done this re-post what you have discovered.

Also budget is essential.
As an example my humble system excluding the tv cost around $1800 US and that is indeed humble and basic for many/most of the individuals here.
It is a very good sounding system to me and for my budget but does not meet my desires hehehe but I am quite content.
Give us the data and we will help YOU make the best decisions but it is your ears that will listen to this system for years to come not ours.

Good luck Rodgie.
