Looks like the Navy is providing 7 ships (for now) to the Haiti relief effort. Good for them.

Having spent 8 years in the Navy myself, this is nothing new. The US Navy has always provided support to disaster areas in this way across the globe - providing security personnel on shore, supplies (food, water, medical), and a carrier or two parked right in the harbor provides a vast resource for triage and hospitalization of injured civilians.

My girlfriend just sent me a text that her ship (USS Bataan) is getting ready to deploy to Haiti tomorrow. Her ship will carry helicopters and some of the 2000 marines they plan to deploy there.

The USS Carl Vinson (90,000 tons of diplomacy ) is already on the way and scheduled to arrive tomorrow.

I love the Navy. We are just that badass.

We sent three aircraft carriers and some other ships after the tsunami in '04 and they had enough hospital beds for something like 15,000 patients. We always do this but still, the rest of the world beats us like an ugly red-headed step-child.

Looks like the Vinson arrived as of the news reports this morning. Man, it's a total mess down there, even worse than originally thought.

My girlfriend joined the same time I did, and she's already been on a Westpac and now going to Haiti. I guess they weren't kidding when they said the Nuclear Navy is a whole different animal...

Man you've got it twisted if you think the rest of the world beats on us, the American people. It's the obvious ownership of our government by corporate entities that the world hates, not the average citizen or the soldier doing their job and taking their orders. Whoever doesn't know that keeps their eyes glued to the TV too often and doesn't know nearly enough foreigners from those various countries.

And all media outlets are guilty of it, so save it hippies and hicks.

Yeah most places love Americans. I do recommend avoiding politics. Most people in Islamic nations don't have a problem with a good guy. I've had numerous Arab friends and they were very nice folks.

This idea they are all bad guys out to destroy us is a lie. The bad guys blow them up in their own country too.
