A few thoughts about Axiom Audio (long)

4 weeks, and 5 days ago I ordered the following: 2 M22Ti's in a custom finish with 2 full metal brackets for wall mounting, 2 QS8's and an EP350 from the factory outlet (10% discount for slight cosmetic defects). After trying out a VP150 I knew I wanted my whole system to be Axioms.

The custom finish for the M22's was supposed to set me back 6 weeks which is why I opted for the FO version of the EP350. I thought this might offset the custom finish cost.

First of all, dealing with Axiom is absolutely unreal! You read all the time about their wonderful customer service but you just can't quite grasp it until you've dealt with them. I have spoken with Joel, JC, Noreen and Amie either via email or on the phone. They return emails super fast. They return phone calls super fast. Heck, they even double check that you've received a return call or email. I have asked them to change my order once, for advice several times, to clarify some questions I had and each contact was the perfect example of how customer service would be if you could dream something like this up.

I received an email 2 days ago stating that my shipment was going out. Over a week early no less. The email came in at 11am PST on Monday. 6 boxes arrived on my doorstep via Fedex at 9am this morning. At a whopping 142 pounds I can't even imagine what that costs to ship 2-day international. Of course, they charged me nothing for it. The boxes looked a little rough around the edges thanks to Fedex. The packaging was expertly done, however, and the contents inside pristine.

Each speaker came with a very nice brochure specific to that speaker along with tools and accessories needed to optomize use of the product. The finish is remarkable, especially my custom finished M22's. I remember kind of sitting back and admiring the mass of audio perfection that now consumed my living room and thinking, I'm pretty sure this is how I felt when I got my first car. I was awestruck. They were perfect.

After tossing out all the boxes I moved the EP350 into a well lighted area to find the blemishes, scratch, dent, whatever that reduced it's cost by 10%. There weren't any. Not any at all. Nothing! Nada! Zilch! I'm not sure if it's a mistake or if they're just nuts but this thing is unmarred, and quite simply, beautiful. I then carefully examined the rest of the speakers and then, at last, came upon a surprise that I am still reeling over; the M22's have a metal plaque on the back of them that has imprinted "Custom Made for my name" I couldn't believe it! Even my wife was impressed. I must have worn a smile over that for 20 minutes. These speakers are impressive down to every minute detail. I have heard some reviewers balk at the grill quality but in my opinion they are finely crafted and well suited for the speakers they are mounted to.

OK, so I got everything hooked up to my Yamaha RX-V2500 and ran the YPAO. Funny thing is that the EP350 puts out so much bass that I kept getting level errors until I had it turned down to about 25% volume, in phase, flat trim and bypassed crossover so that the Yamaha could have free rein over it. I think I'm the one guy who just doesn't get the whole bass thing. I really wanted the EP500 but simply couldn't justify the expense at the moment. Now I'm very glad I didn't get it. My family and I were blown away by the power of the EP350. We watched '100 yard dash' from The Incredibles with the same settings that I mentioned before and it was AWESOME! We could feel the gunfire in our chests, Dash's footsteps and explosions in our rumps and there was no murky bass. Just tons and tons of tight, hard hitting bass. It is the best Sub I've ever experienced. To say 'heard' would be unjust. You experience this monster.

The M22Ti's are wonderful. Very clear and natural. A perfect timber match to the VP150. I was hearing things in the few CD's and DVD-A's that I either hadn't heard before or never noticed. These speakers get excellent reviews from everyone and I'll offer the same. I absolutely love them. They honestly sound as good as the vast majority of floorstanding speakers I auditioned in various stores. Unless you need a set of mains to use without a sub, I'm not sure you could do much better than these.

The QS8's. How do I describe these? They are the damndest things you'll ever hear! They are very, very clear with unsurpassed imaging. They had my kids looking all around the room to 'see' where the various effects were coming from. They make watching a concert on DVD or listening to live music on CD a real event! It's like you are right in the middle of things. WOW!

The VP150: I've had this awhile now and I love it. I have a very large room; 14 x 24 x 9 and it's the only center I've ever found that sounds natural in this space. All of the speakers are timber matched and this VP150 center is the ring-leader. Like all the other speakers in the set it sounds clear, natural and wonderful even at the loudest of tolerable levels.

After hearing these loudspeakers I now understand what 'listener fatigue' is. I have finally found speakers that DON'T induce it. No matter how loud I played these I never got tired, annoyed or felt that they ever sounded bad in any way. My family and I spend allot of time enjoying Family Movie Nights, listening to music while we barbeque or playing music for the simple pleasure of listening. All of these things just received a quantom leap thanks to the good folks at Axiom.

I'm obviously not a professionsal audio-anything. I am, however, very passionate about this hobby. I deeply love music and have enjoyed many memorable nights in front of a good movie with my family or just my wife and I. The quality of these speakers is very important to me and even though I don't know much about SPL's, or nodes or whatever, I do know this: These are the most amazing things I've ever heard. I know they will give my family and I years of enjoyment and enhance the things we love to do together. Listening to these made I, my wife and my kids all say WOW!

......and that's worth every penny! ;)

My only regrets now are not having more Axiom speakers to buy!

Thank you to all the folks at Axiom. And thanks to this site. I probably would have had the terrible misfortune of never hearing about Axiom's if it weren't for Audioholics.com.

Axiom Customer service

I had a similar experience with Axiom customer service and I haven't even bought anything yet! I requested a sample of their boston cherry finish and expected a scrap piece of vinyl tossed in an envelope. Instaed I got a show room piece of MDF with the boston cherry finish applied and the axiom logo. It something that a dealer would have in their show room to display the different finishes. They shipped it free and while still at work two days later, I got an email telling me that fed ex had stopped by and I was not home to sign for the package.
My current Athena setup will have to do for a while but I look forward to an upgrade to Axioms in the future.

Great "review." Yeah, I've dealt with Axiom a few times having also requested finish samples. I'm currently lurking on a number of sites as the day approaches where I can finally get a new pair of speakers...and Axiom is right up there in the running.

That whole "custom made" tag is unbelievable. What a nice touch. Along those lines, I too am interested in the custom finishes. Out of curiosity, which one did you choose? Also, if it's not too much trouble, post some pics, or PM me and I'll give you my e-mail addy. I'd LOVE to see what the custome finishes look like being that they're standard finishes are already so nice.

Nice pull on the speakers. Sounds like you've made yourself, and your family, very happy. That's all you can ask for out of this hobby.

I have had the same experiences with their CS. I have only purchased a pair of M22Tis so far, but do plan on filling out my complete 7 speaker set with axioms. 80% of the reason is because I love their speakers, but the other 20% is because I love their company and their customer service.

I have to agree, I just got the Epic 60/500 set for 5.1 and hooked it up to my Denon 3805 and they sound fantastic! I'm just listening to Maler's 6th symphony where they really have a wonderfull warm sound and spread out a great field. And they shine just as much with rap, rock, electronic, and of course with movies. They litterally caused the pictures on my walls to hang crooked! Absolutely stunning.

I was not too happy about buying without listening, but after reading so many good reviews and not having the time (nor the audio memory) to compare speakers in different listening rooms I made the jump. I had them at home within 3 days (ordered on a weekend).

I'm still working on the receiver setup which is much more involved than I thought, but yes, I'd recommend Axiom to anybody that asks and quite likely to several that don't ;-)

Great service, great build quality (though real wood veneer would have been nicer), and great sound.

Very pleased indeed!

Happy Axiom owner here too

The feeling you get when everything is hooked up, calibrated and you sit down to demo your new setup, and you cant get that ear-to-ear :D smile off your face is what it is all about. I am glad that you had such a great experience with Axiom. It speaks volumes for the company. I thought I was getting special treatment when I got my set...

it really looks like they take their customers serious and treat everybody really great. Communications were great and helpful.
And yes, that smile is still there! I especially loved the WHOA! too, when the first explosions rumbled through my house :D

Hi. I too am glad i found Axiom here at Audioholics. Their products, service and website are top notch examples of how to do business right. The speed of comminication, shipping and the WOW effect of these speakers gave me that satisfaction grin inside that I did it right too. That combo/alliance leads to success for all and I'm so glad to hear from others they had the same experience I had. Keep up the good work Audioholics and Axiom. :)

Good to hear it guys!

I am also a VERY happy Axiom owner.
I started with the M22s (Grand Master Package) but upgraded to the M60s 2 weeks later. I've now had my axioms for almost 2 years and get a grin on my face every time I listen.
And ya'll are right about the CS. Hands down the best CS I've EVER dealt with.
You guys (if you havent already) need to get over to the Axiom boards and share your experiances. We're a pretty nice bunch for the most part.

Chalk up one more for the Axiom folks...

I too got a new/factory seconds mix of M80s, QS8s, VP150, and a EP350 and have nothing but praise for the entire process. Out of 4 factory outlet speakers, I only found one 1" long "ripple" in the finish on the backside of an M80. In an age where poor customer service seems to be the norm, this company is a welcome breath of fresh air.

I just signed up over there (I'm 'beef', there.). Now if I can just get someone in my rural area willing to audition some M60's I'll be a happy old man. No luck so far. So much has been said about these units....I just gotta find out if it's a step up for me or not. My worst fear is that they sound like Paradigms, whose brightness I cannot abide.

Good cheer.

My experience with SVS is 180-degs from yours. In all of my life I have never encountered such poor customer no-service with any company, ever, as I did with SVS.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I’ll be generous and give SVS a 0.

Velodyne was so much more helpful. However, when talking to their marketing/sales people, their demeanor suddenly turned icy cold when I inquired into any safety certification their products have (none!), but they did provided all the info I requested.

Velodyne tech support gets a 10.

ADC Telecom (connectors for interconnekt cables) – outstanding tech support, they get a 10.

Denon is always helpful on the phone, once I get past punching all those buttons to get to tech support, but Denon has never returned a call when I have left a msg. So they get an 8.

Loewe (hi def CRT) helpful, but only because they had to be, so 8 or 9.

Middle Atlantic (racks) – very helpful, they get 10 also.

Panasonic tech support for their professional/commercial products is exceptional…10.

Parasound tech support gets a very solid 10+.

Phoenix Gold (aka Audio Source and Carver/Carver Pro) gets a 10.

Samsung’s support sucks. It’s one of those things where someone reads from a manual, doesn’t have a clue about the products, then referred me to the next level of support. They get a 5…middle of the road.

Sumiko Audio, distributor of Vienna Acoustic spkrs, REL subs, and Primar pre/pros and amps gets an 8 or 9.

Triad Spkrs tech support gets a 9.

VMPS (spkrs) gets an 11+, maybe a 12 or 13. Hey, when the guy that designed the sub shows up at my home and spends 3-hrs in my living room tweaking things…

My experience with Axiom was the same. Amazing company, amazing people, and their forum is as non-biased as they come.

I wanted to get my 80's in custom finish, but can you say $$$$$. But the mere thought of it makes me jealous.

My only regret with Axiom was that I could not get EVERYTHING from them. Meaning the receivers, amps etc. I wish they sold everything because the entire purchasing experience was phenomenal.

They are coming out with an electronics line soon. I like my Yamaha, but it could very well be sold if their electronics line is anywhere near the quality of their speakers.

Have fun with the new system.

Custom Finishes

Corysmith01,
You can also request a sample of one of their custom finishes. The cost is $10, but when you place an order for the speakers they give you a $10 credit.
Since all their prices include shipping cost, all you have to lose is the returning shipping if you order and demo a set of their speakers.

Bray,
Why did you feel the need to upgrade to the M60s? Do you have a perticularly large room or play at hight SPLs? I am looking at the M22ti's due to furniture / space constraints in my room.

They do offer a 30 day money back guarantee, in case you don't like them. It took me a couple of days to go for this, buying a set of speakers without ever having heard them, but the 30 seemed like a good chance to test them. If I don't like them, all I'd be out of is some time and shipping charges to send them back, which I think is reasonable.

I doubt they get many back though.... :p

Mine they'd have to pry of of my cold dead hands :D
