My buddy, which we hadn't seen one another in 3 1/2 months, after returning from overseas decided after 23 years has a Naval Officer to retired and I couldn't be more happier for him & his wife and son & daughter. He and his wife were out shopping and while she was in the ladies store, he decided to visit a pawn shop 3 doors down, he indicated that he has interest in a 2.1 or 5.1 set up for music which he has some knowledge of audio and just looking around while his wife was in the store which he said they had some nice things but what stuck out to him which he never heard of was a brand new sealed box with the brand name Rythmik & model LV 12R for $350, he called me after returning home and asked me about it, my response was shall I go alone or shall we go together?, he asked where?...TO THE PAWN SHOP!, to shortened this, when got back to the store they took $30 off because of paying cash, I asked do they get subs in like this one periodically, no, he said this was the 1st and on our way to put it in the SUV a young kid and his dad we're on there way to purchase it. I said to my buddy, this is a very good start and if he didn't want to go back to store, surely I would have made the trip myself...

Wow what a deal, hope it isn't stolen.
That was my 1st question, the rep said that on unopened items like this they require a drivers license or a state issued ID and if it was jewelry it's a 18 day hold on it before they could sale, he stated that if it was the liability would be between them and the seller, I said we have nothing to lose. The rep said that his co-worker processed the transaction, and having some knowledge of pawn shops profit margin is to double there money back or more, nothing less, I told my buddy if you had called me when you we're there, I would have advised him to BUY...BUY!!!, once again I told him he's off to a great start...

Just seems odd someone would pawn a sub like that, especially not even tested out, but rather still brand new in the box. IMHO things disappear from shipping channels more than people buy a sub like that and then are so desperate as to need to pawn it for quick bucks....just IMHO.

ps Just off the top of my head thoughts in any case.

When my buddy told me about it, I just knew something was wrong, my thoughts was who sales a sub like this so cheap unless it's stolen or they don't know the value of it and as you stated in need of a quick buck, getting a sub like that at that price just don't happen often.

Pretty sure whoever is holding stolen property can't keep it under inquiry, that bit about the pawn shop merely collecting unconfirmed ID rather than checking ownership....meh

The process for pawning or selling a computer, there's alot more that is required and I don't get why mid level audio isn't treated the same way.

Don't assume an product in a pawn shop is stolen, especially if it's an audio product.

In audio, there are many so-called 'audiophile' buyers who frequently buy and sell items, often without opening them. They suffer from a condition known as Audiophilia Nirvana Nervosa where they constantly seek perfect synergy among amps, preamps, speakers, or subwoofers. Unfortunately they don't know how to make a choice rationally, so they often decide using whim or superstition. They rarely stay satisfied for long.

For all we know, someone bought two sub woofers, intending to compare them over an extended period and keep the one he liked better. Once he installed the first one, and realized how much work & bother it was unpacking, moving them around, and repacking again, he sold the other sub woofer without opening the box.

As much as we look down on those who suffer from Audiophilia Nirvana Nervosa, we can also benefit from them. My amps and AVR were all bought used from such people :D.
