A Denon 2803 question

Here is something I have been wondering for a while now, it is not explained in the manual and I have thought about calling Denon about it.
If I have my front L/R speakers set to large and sub-woofer set to yes are the LFE sounds going to the L/R or still only to the sub. I understand low bass is is going to the L/R but are the LFE's in 5.1 recording going there?

It is my understanding that if your speakers are set to large, no LFE goes to the sub. It goes to the speakers. That's why people with the tower speakers, that have good woofers in them, don't bother with a sub at all.

Hmmm, my 2803 does not work that way, If I have fronts to large and sub to yes the sub is active, I just want to know if the effects sounds are going to the fronts. I would not want some of those huge explosions going to my monitor 7's but they sound good letting them play full range.

Are you sure it's not just center or effects channels going to the sub - or are you talking about 2-channel mode?

Also, you can set subwoofer to go to "both" in the 3805.

Plus you would possibly have subwoofer output in DPL II modes due to it generating a pseudo LFE signal IIRC.

I have the 2805 and monitor 7's, the setting for bass is on "both" with the 7's set to large and the receiver set at 80Hz. So far it sounds good to me. My question is, doesn't the receiver send any signal under 80Hz to the sub, or am I wrong?

That is what I am getting at, the xover settings are not explained real well, I think I know whats going on but I would like to know for sure. Let me ask the questions and explain what I think is happening. For clarity right now I am only concerned about all this in regards to a 5.1 setup DTS or DD 5.1

1: Fronts set to large, sub set to yes, Xover set to 80hz.
My thinking is this. Full range going to fronts, 80hz and below going to sub.
The question I have is are the Low Freq effect sounds from a 5.1 track also going to the fronts? Is the .1 track being routed to the fronts and sub or is the .1 track still only going to the sub. I am just trying to understand how all this routing works.

It would seem like a lot of trouble to route the .1 track to both the left and right in addition to the signals they are getting already.

I guess what I am asking is, Is the bass that would be in the normal left and right different and seperate from the effects sounds in the .1 track and what affect does changing all the settings have on how sounds are routed?

Does anyone understand what I am asking and why. It is kind of hard to explain.

Ahh, now we are getting somewhere, I found this blurb on site advertising a book. Please read.

"In a stereo music system, a subwoofer handles frequencies below what the main speakers can handle, typically under 80 Hz. In a 5.1 Dolby Digital system, however, the subwoofer has an additional purpose: to handle the low-frequency effects (LFE) channel, which is the “.1” part. This is a distinct channel, not the low frequencies of the other channels."

So again I ask; if the fronts are set to large and subwoofer to yes is it then true that low bass is going to the fronts but not the LFE channel? Likewise if subwoofer was set to no then the LFE WOULD be sent to the fronts? Is this a correct interoperation?
