A bit of an undertaking...

So a friend of mine inherited some audio gear. She has a few pairs of Vienna Acoustics speakers, a pair of very large Martin Logan electrostats, matching centers, a Krell amp, a collection of other amps, some processors, and a bunch of other stuff.

She wants me to go through all of the stuff and see if it's worth selling. The equipment has had a rough life to say the least. The guy that owned them would play things at maximum volume for hours on end. How do I know this? Well I cannot imagine how else this would happen...

That is the crossover out of one of the Vienna Acoustics Beethoven speakers. Both crossovers look like that complete with the resistor that desoldered itself from the board because it got so hot.

Out of ten drivers (two woofers, two mids, and one tweeter per speaker) only three woofers have continuity and two of those three have blown surrounds.

So I basically have a speaker that needs all new drivers and a crossover that may not even be salvageable. Is it even worth the effort for these? I don't even know how much they would sell for.

I took this pair home first because I thought it would be the easiest project as they appeared to be in the best shape out of all of them. If these are this bad I'm afraid to see what the other look like!

They'd be worth it as a fun project for you, but depending on how much you can even buy the raw parts from Vienna for, I doubt there would be much left over after breaking even in a sale!

The only hope is in finding an aficionado of those particular speakers and components who is so enamored with the products that they feel a moral obligation to save them. As TheWarrior says, after buying so many replacement parts there will be "no meat on the bone" for resale, and just as likely more spent than they're ever going to be worth.

It's a almost a crime to see that.
