I have a split level home. My stereo system is located upstairs in my library. I have two speakers that I ran into the living room and two speakers that I ran downstairs so I could listen to my music while I am working. What I would like to do is figure out how set up the speakers downstairs to control their volume and shut them off when needed. My system is just a straight speaker wire from the receiver. Any ideas?

There are some IR extenders that would allow you to take your remote to the other room. I've never used one personally. Put the term in your search engine. Hopefully something that will get the job done.

Maybe something like this?

smile.amazon.com/Niles-VCS100K-Volume-Control/dp/B007N0TB14/

You'll have to run wires and all that stuff though.

So, I have speaker wire coming from the amplifier down to the basement. I would take the speaker wire, wire it to the switch, and then to the speakers?
