Hey,

I'm new to the forum, and to buying home theater speakers. I have never bought a set in my life, and am finally taking the plunge. I have about $900-$1000 to spend on the system, and was wondering what would be a good system to get.

The system would be used in my new theater room which is 21'x16'. I was thinking of getting the Onkyo HT-S7200. What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance

-Janesh

If it were me and I was buying a first setup I'd consider the $1050 SVSounds 5.1 package (on-sale while out of stock) and a $500 refurbished Onkyo TXSR707 receiver from Accessories For Less to drive it.

A second choice would be two Infinity Primus P362 towers for $200ea online (often much less on sale). A matching PC350 center for $250. You can get a pair of Wharfedale WH-2 surrounds from Wild West Electronic for $80/pr or go with Infinity Primus P162 ($200/pr) bookshelves as surrounds. Add a Hsu Research STF-2 subwoofer and you're good to go for $1100. The Infinities are easy to drive so a $320 refurbished Onkyo TX-SR607 should be fine.

There must be twenty similar threads you can look up as well.

since you have to include an audio/visual receiver in your total budget, that leaves about $700 for the speakers.

To stay "near" your budget, consider Polk Monitor 60 mains, a Polk CS2 center channel, Polk Monitor 30 surrounds, and a Hsu Research SFT-1 subwoofer

at some point in the future, when the hole in your bank account stops smoking, you might consider adding a second Hsu SFT-1 if your room need it.

As for a receiver, look at a Denon 590, Pioneer 820, Onkyo SR508, or Yamaha V565.

Interconnect cables, speaker wiring, HDMI, etc. www.monoprice.com

good luck

While you are on the HSU site....

Look at their bookshelf speakers.....they are horn loaded, efficient and very good if your primary concern is HT vs a heavier music mix, especially in a fairly large room like yours......just my $.02

These are a bit over your budget: http://www.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=7705281

But are great speakers. You would need a heafty amp to drive them..

A bit over? That is over his budget just for the speakers alone...and only one pair.
The title did say "$900 budget to get good speakers". but in the text the OP did mention the word 'system'. It was a little confusing. Anyways, just trying to help.

Best Regards,
Stan
