8 speakers setup with 1 receiver

I setup 3 rooms with total of 8 speakers, each room with vol controls and I'm running it on a Sony 6.1 receiver. Since there is no other way (I think) to hook it up to the receiver I have 2 sets of speakers in channel B and 2 sets of speakers on channel A and I run it in 2ch mode. Sounds good until you cranck up the vol on the receiver when the protection mode turn on the receiver.

Does anyone know if there is a better way to setup this system with possible future integration of 6.1 surround in main room with 4 speakers running the other rooms pure stereo, not neccesarily at the same time.

Thank you in advance for any input.

A 7.1 receiver with a powered Zone 2 option can do 5.1 in the main zone and stereo in zone 2. You'd have the other 4 speakers connected to zone 2 and they would all play the same source but that source could be different than the one in the main zone. Because you'd have two sets of speakers in parallel you must use impedance matching volume controls.

For future, get a 100-200 Watt stereo amp to drive the speakers in the other room(s) in conjunction with the impedance matching volume controls. I have this type of setup with 2 channels of my HT amp powering speakers in 5 rooms.
