The new 7th generation plasma's from Panasonic claim to resist burn in from static pictures as well as a CRT. Can someoen tell me what a CRT is and if the claim from Panasonic is anything to brag about?

Thanks

CRT=Cathode Ray Tube. It's the 'old' glass style tv.

Image burn in technology does various things to help avoid screen burn in. Usually shifting pixels around on the screen minutely is what goes on. It should not be visible to the human eye, but should do the trick.

A lot of new plasmas employ burn-in avoidance technology, so it isn't something to brag about... But, it is definitely something to advertise as a feature.

You can get burn-in on a CRT as well. It usually takes a long time and can be difficult to see. So it sounds like the new technology is reducing the possibility for burn-in not eliminating it.

The Panasonic 7th Generation Models use a newly developed phosphor material which is more resistant to burn-in.
