new to this so need help trying to figure out what to purchase. I got suckered into purchasing the Bose soundtouch 300, acusticmass 300, and vi speakers and I was not impressed one bit so I think I'm gonna just try and build my own surround sound.I've been looking at the Onkyo 747, 757, 777. I want power, wifi, Bluetooth, 4K , something that can possibly auto calibrate and the 2 subs since I like a little more thump. I have a budget of 1k but don't wanna go that high if it's not needed.

How big is your room and how far are you from the TV? That will help determine your power requirements. Is your 1k budget for the receiver or the whole system?

Room is about 16x20 and I'll be sitting about 10-12 ft away. 1k budget is for receiver only. Wanna get something good then work my way around that

I'd skip Onkyo and look for a Denon or Marantz with Audyssey XT32/SubEQ feature for the two subs. You can save some money going with a refurb, altho review terms/warranty carefully, at accessories4less.com

Good going and getting rid of the Blose! :)

Amazon often has sales on BRAND NEW (I would NEVER buy refurbished) Denon AVR for ~ 40% off MSRP.

A Denon 3000 series may be $599, while a Denon 4000 series may be $799. Watch for that.

Both the 3000 & 4000 series have pre-outs if you ever want to use external amps. Both also have the flagship Audyssey XT32.
