Building the family a theater in a spare heated room above the garage. the room is 18x24. I got a great deal on a Marantz 7704 11.2 pre/pro dolby atmos reciever and a yamaha 5000 11 channel amplifier. I grabbed a 4ke projector and a 160" screen. For speakers I decided to try out a brand called MICCA. I have not heard of them before but I am able to try them out risk free.
The speakers appear to be quality constructed, but I don't want to go cutting holes and installing them if someone here has already tested/reviewed or proven they are no good. I also do not have a $32,000 acoustic imaging speaker testing machine either. At first glance they look like klipsch knockoffs. I will have to wait till my amplifier arrives to power them up. Does anyone know a good way to test and compare a speaker?
I have some nice tower Klipsch speakers, a pair of Paradigms and some new adam audio reference speakers. Is there a way to actually test these against each other or is it subjective? 90% of the time this room will be for family movies and 10% listening to music.
I also purchased a pair of 18" active sub-woofers for 400$ from a company called proreck. I think these are DJ style subs more than home theater but at 200 a piece they are very impressive.
I have attached some pics for your enjoyment. Looking forward to your comments and thoughts.
