I'm currently wiring basement for HT. I currently have enough room for a 7.1 set up. Is or worth it or should I just plan on a 5.1. Also Why does the wall plates have 2 rca jacks for the subwoofer? Where would you put 2 subwoofers? Was trying to find it on a search but no luck.

Some people like to run multiple subs, others are happy with one.

There are some nice articles on subs at the Audioholics "Tips & Tricks" section on "Get Good Bass." Here is a link to one on multiple subs.

EDIT: Regarding 7.1 versus 5.1, I'd suggest running the wires for 7.1 if it isn't too much more hassle even if you are planning on running 5.1 for now. After all, you might decide to try it later on, and you'll be happy that the wires are already built in.

I really prefer 7.1 even with 5.1 source material. With 7.1 material it is an amazing sound taking you out of your room and into what you see on screen.

As far as subs go THX now recommends 4 subs, 1 in the middle of each wall.

Most people want to wire for more than 1 sub. I suggest wiring for four subs.

I know that may not fly with the lady though. The reason is you can always move your sub or subs anywhere you want. 4 subs is probably overkill for your room and isn't necessary if you have 2 great subs. Of course it never hurts:D. But I would only do 4 if you are doing a DIY option. Even then I would only use two. Usually that is more than sufficient.

At least wire the front and back or the sides

For wiring I suggest you drop enough for an 7.1 and maybe one for a 6.1 as well. Make sure you put it in the right spot for acoustics. Don't mess that up. I think there is room modeling software to help. I think a great 7.1 setup is awesome for movies. You get amazing effects. I watch 2 movies every saturday on my 7.1 setup because it's so amazing. :D

If you can treat your room do it.

if you can, wire for a sub on each of the 4 walls - that way if you change sub location, you won't have to cross a corner with wiring when all is done already.

That's what all music is supposed to do. If your 2.0 system can't do that time for an upgrade:D Bring in the towers, subs and get this man some help. :D

Oh sorry dreaming again.

thanks guys, I'm gonna wire for more than 1 sub. Makes sense to me. I'm also wiring "future tube" in a couple of locations. I'll try to post some pics as I move along, thanks for the insight....
