hi m8s nice to be on board , my question whats the minimum distance my side surrounds can be from my rear backs at the moment they are 1meter in front is that to short should i move them forward

I don't think that there's any minimum distance that they can be. However, there are recommendations for optimal placement. Audioholics has a couple of articles, and here is a link to Dolby labs home theater speaker guide.

ok here we go length of room 6meters by 6meters more or less a square room rear backs are on the back wall 2meters high from the floor the side surrounds are 1meter forward of the backs and 2.5 meters high from the floor all im asking m8s is would it be benefical to move the side surrounds forward say another 1.5 meters

Please check out the link that I provided above. It shows the recommended placement of speakers.

In the end, though, you'll want them placed how they sound best to you (within your other constraints, like other furniture, windows, opinions of other people in the house, and so on).

As with most placement type issues, once you've started somewhere around the "correct" position, it's really just time to experiment. Grab a movie that you feel has good surround effects, find a particularly good scene. Move the speakers to a different position and see where you think you had the best effects. If you have these wall mounted instead of stand mounted it will be a little bit of work but you can use anything as a temporary stand, using two friends usually works out well.

That is because there is no set distance that is recommended. If you follow Dolby's advice, you should be fine for placement.

As for your earlier question regarding moving your side surrounds forward, they should not be more forward than 90˚ relative to directly in front of the viewing position (i.e., they should be straight to the side or further back). If you move the side surrounds further forward, it will then be wrong.

Your receiver has automatic calibration called YPAO. It will set the correct distances and levels for you. You should first run that and see how it does, then make your own personal preference adjustments to those settings.
