Hello everyone,

New here but doing a lot of reading.

I have a 20x18 theater with a 119" screen, HD projector and 7.1 speakers off of a Yamaha receiver.

Trouble is, the front speakers always seem to the the only ones heard. I don't really feel the surround sound unless I go to direct 7 where I get it all the time so it's not surround.

I have monkey'd around with the output settings on my reciever but am at a loss for where to go. Is there a standard for which to set a 7.1 (which will normally play a 5.1 by default) to start? If so, what is it? Plus and Minus on the reciever is what I'm looking for.

Any help is appreciated.

Receiver setup

If you haven't already, do the auto setup on your Yamaha (if available) and the receiver will identify all 7 speakers and set the levels and distances. I would recommend going back into the setup to verify that all speakers are set to "SMALL" with an 80 Hz crossover with the sub.

To engauge all channels with a stereo source, you can use the Dolby PLIIx DSP mode. This mode can also be used to take a 5.1 source (DVD, etc.) and use all 7.1 speakers. When you have a DVD playing verify that you are getting the dolby digital 5.1 signal on the receivers front pannel. If not, you may need a different cable or to change the DVD player settings.
