Hey Guys, i need some advice on whether this is a good idea or not. My fronts will be Paradigm Studio series Towers and center. (not in walls, just regular speakers). However, for the rears, i was thinking of doing the side rears as in wall (Paradigm sa-30), and for the rears, since i wont have a back wall, i was thinking of the Paradigm sa-15r-30 speakers which are mounted at a 30 degree angle which would face where the sofa is. Is this a good idea? Will it sound good being in wall and in ceiling?

Thanks!!

In-wall is fine for the side surrounds. If the side surrounds are in the ceiling sometimes you can tell the sound is coming from above and it may sound odd. As long as they are to the side, it should be fine.

I was considering adding in-ceiling for the rear surrounds too since my house is already wired for it but I haven't done it yet so can't comment on how it will sound. In my case I was going to get speakers with aimable tweeters and actually aim them down and slightly toward the back thinking it might make it a bit more believable sounding as if the sound truly were coming from behind. Just a thought.

Well thats how the Paradigm speakers are. My sides would be on the wall, but the rear would be on the ceiling. The Paradigms already come angled at 30 degrees, so i think all i have to do is mount them in teh right location and it should sound good.

But thats what i think. I hope someone with experience can shed some light.

Thanks for your input MDS

I've had a similar setup for 6 years without regret. Since the sides are mono-polar, you'll want to place them slightly behind the listening area and not directly to the side.
