7.1 back surround speaker placement

I'm trying to determine the best option for adding back surround
speakers for 7.1 sound. My HT watching/listening position is on a sofa
which is placed against the back wall and I cannot move it. My current
5.1 setup has M&K SS-150 tripole rear surround speakers on the side walls which are close to the ceiling and the seating position is in line with the null of these speakers. Since my sofa is against the back wall I wonder how inwall speakers on the back wall close to the ceiling would sound. It would seem the sound would just shoot over my head. Maybe ceiling speakers above my head or 2 more tripole speakers would be better?

Any advice?

Hey Syd, it would probably be better if you actually have those speakers on the ceiling facing down. I'm sure the other guys can give you a better idea if you can take a couple of pics of that area in question and post it here so that they can make a better call. I'm picturing your layout and thinking the ceiling will be lot better.
