7.1.2 or 5.1.2 in a Small room

Hi everyone, I really love a good sound system that can give me an engaging experience while watching a movie or playing games.

I am building a room or I should say a very small room 4400x3000 m. So the idea is to have a tailored furniture for the room (maybe it can extend to the ceiling) to save space and still fit a big TV and any other devices. So I want your advice and to know if it’s a good or bad idea to go big on a small room.

Thank you for your time and please excuse my lack of knowledge.

Imo it depends. Can you get 4-5’ behind your MLP? If not, I would recommend 5.x.2.

If you can get some room behind your seat, the most benefit would be 5.x.4. That also wouldn’t require an external 2ch amp.
7 channel bed is icing on the cake but having 4 ceiling speakers is better than having rear surrounds.

Though depending on the games, if that's your priority... there might not be atmos but a lot of cool stuff is programmed to those rears.

But you do need space for that!

Did you mean 4.4x3 meters? (Roughly 14x10' i think.)
Is this purely a HT/game/listening room? or do you need it for other things?

I have 7 channels set up in my room which is ~15x11'... and planning on adding atmos when my last pair comes in from Dennis. I'm kind of shoe-horning it in, with the hopes I get to expand to the larger space in the future.
It Is A Tight Situation! Posts 130-134 HERE will show you the room I'm working in. I talked to William about it, too. The rears mounted on that back wall are not super ideal, especially once I put Atmos in. I'm going to have about as much space between my Top-Front and Top-Rear Atmos as I will between my TR and Back Surrounds.

Depending on your gear, and your absolute desires: doing Atmos, you definitely want Top speakers: maybe you can specify Top Middle on your gear, but if not, maybe you could do Top front and Rear Height? If you really want to add that much???

Agreed. BUT, I will say that ime properly setup surround speakers can create very good phantom center imaging behind you. Also the expense of two more speakers and a capable AVR might be over the limit. Of course we don’t know what that line is yet.
Btw, I think we made to 10° above zero!!! Yay...

Hi guys,

Sorry for the late reply and thanks for taking some time to respond to me. I have been doing lots of work lately and I think I can make the room am working on bigger, so now my question is what is your recommendations for the brand of a 7.1.4 home theater? Should I go for ML, KEF or Klipsch? As for the budget I don’t want to go over 5000$

Thank you again
