5' subwoofer update

Here's some new news on the 60" subwoofer, with some pics. Many of you have already seen it. It's supposedly capable of 180dB of output.

The last I had heard on that monster it would only do about 160db. It would do that at about 20hz though. I believe it is capable of true 1 cycle response. It requires god awful amounts of power.

Sure, laugh now. But when this thing accidentally destroys a small city somewhere with a 10 Hz wave with the force equivalent of 18,000 tons of TNT we will all look back at our own blind ambition and hang our heads in shame.

They probably took the idea from Back to the Future 1.

I do not know if all of you are aware, but this subwoofer is over 5 years old I believe. It was designed and built by Richard Clark. MTX simply put some sponsorship money into it. Richard Clark has a forum over at www.carsound.com He is a very objective personality who is dedicated to audio research. He also helped pioneer the use of the capacitor in car audio installations.

This is a car sub, not a s house sub. Can you imagine having this monster blasting in your backseat while driving? I would probably pass out from all those sound vibrations.
