ok, I have a pioneer vsx-1016 receiver. This is a 7.1 receiver, however I want to install 6 speakers rather then 7. I know that in the traditional 6.1 setup, you place the 6th speaker in the back middle, which is what I would like to do. However, looking at the image in the link which shows the back of my receiver:

where do I plug the 6th channel?
surroung L or R? does it make a difference?

The 7.1 setup was designed to have the 6th and 7th speakers on the left and right side (middle), but I dont want that, I just want to be able to playback dts es and dd ex soundtracks with a back center channel.

Your manual should indicate which terminal to use if you only connect 6 speakers but every single receiver I have ever seen says to use the Surround Left channel. In the setup menus you indicate which speakers are present so it will know that there are only 6(.1) speakers and will route the sound accordingly.
