I know this sounds ridiculous (that I don't know this) but I'm not sure I understand DTS ES 6.1. Do I just connect a speaker to one of the SB outputs on my receiver and a DTS ES movie puts the center dialogue to that speaker as well? I've searched to try and see how this configuration works but don't understand. Any help is appreciated

Thanks!!

That sixth speaker does not mimic the front center speaker.

It's merely another surround channel. Don't expect much more from that speaker than you get from the other surrounds.

Thanks for the reply. Is how I mentioned the correct way to hook up a 6th speaker?

What is a "SB" output?

You need a soecific speaker output for the 6th speaker. It's generally called something like "rear center" or "center surround" or something like that. That "SB" has me stumped.

You may have to tell your receiver that it's hooked up in one of the setup menus and, even hen, it will only be active wheh the source mandates for it. My Denon has an indicator light in the front panel that shown then a 6th channel is present, which isn't very often,

I believe SB is surround back.

Do you have a 7.1 channel receiver? If you do, the manual should tell you which of the 2 inputs, SB left or SB right, you should connect the single center back speaker to. Then in a menu somewhere you will tell the receiver that you are only using 1 surround back speaker instead of 2.

If this is what you are asking and you still need help, post the model receiver you have and that may help me or someone else give you more specific help.

Yeah, I meant surround back by SB. Sorry about that. Alandamp, I have the RX-V2500 receiver and have looked through the manual to see which of the two inputs to run the sixth speaker to but can't find it.

If you look at the back of the reciever it should say "single" under the left speaker terminals. That would be the one to use. After that tell the set-up that you have only one SB speaker.

If you look on page 16, you will see that it says, under Surround Back terminals, to connect a single speaker to the left terminal.

Then on page 59 it shows you how to tell the receiver that you only have a single speaker connected for surround back.

Hopefully that helps. By the way, I found that info in the online manual for the receiver, so hopefully the page numbers correspond to what you are looking at.

Alandamp, thanks a lot! The page numbers do correspond right. I really appreciate the help.
