Why the HDMI/DVI in/out on my 5805 seem inoperable?
If I take an HDMI out, form a HD Tivo or Cable box, connect it to the receiver and from the receiver out to the TV nothing comes out. If the signal from either box is connected directly to the TV's DVI in port the video signal (picture) is perfect. I wonder what the explanation is. Why the receiver thinks it is illegal to import/export the TV program and the TV thinks is OK.
Thanks

It may be your cable. Someone earlier had a similar problem and solved the issue with an updated hdmi interconnect.

Yea, well before you go telling people to spend money on a new cable that will likely not solve their problem, maybe you could have them check out this thread first:

Basically, it's a cable box issue with HDMI compliance. There is already a fix for 1.0, but the cable company has to implement it in some markets. With the 1.1 spec out and featured in the new receivers, the cable boxes may need yet another upgrade.

Of course, none of this will matter if that receiver is hooked up to 4-ohm speakers and self-destructs.

Thank you all
1. The cables are fine. I have tried 2 different ones.
2. I'll check with Comcast although I have the Motorola box version III.
3. So what you mean is that my Sony TV can receive the signal my the Denon can not?
4. Clint what is that about my speakers? What do they have to do with video hook-up?
Thanks again, I'll keep you posted

HDMI must be HDCP Compliant

I just bought a Pioneer VSX-72TXV -- one reason being the HDMI in-out as well as upscaling -- not to mention a s**tpot full of other great features.

One requirement of this unit is that any digital video source (HDMI or DVI)must be HDCP compliant -- which I'm OK with since I don't plan to pirate any films, etc. BUT, although I assumed that Comcast would be "in tune" with the whole HDCP compliance thing in their STB's I was wrong. I tried every combination of settings I could think of, asked the cable guy (how was here for another problem) and nothing would make the digital video from the STB display via HDMI to the HDTV. I called Pioneer Elite user support (which I must say is absolutely top notch) and they said the HDCP thing is probably the problem. So I called Comcast and, unfortunately, at least in my area the Comcast Motorola STB with DVI out is not (yet) HDCP compliant. So I can't use the HDMI pass through on the receiver quite yet -- must wait a few months for Comcast to upgrades their HDTV STB.:(

Long story -- and I'm not sure if that's your problem, but I suspect it is.

BUT -- in the meantime I am using the VSX-72 to convert component video (it's analog, so not subject to HDCP complaince issues) from two sources -- the STB and DVD -- to HDMI output to my Panny 42" HDTV (1080i) and it looks great. :D
