Your set doesn't need to upconvert if it supports 1080i, you can get a player that does upconversion. The question is whether or not it supports 720p also, which many crt projection sets do not, and that is unlikely if not equiped with DVI/HDMI. There is no simple way to add HDMI to a set, and converting from HDMI to component means you will lose the capability offered by HDMI so it isn't something that will benefit you.
