50" Samsung Slim DLP or Zenith Plasma

Ok, so Black Friday is coming up and I am looking at upgrading to a larger TV. I'm looking at the Samsung 50" Slim DLP HDTV for $800 or Zenith 50" Plasma HDTV for $1000. I have a 32" olevia LCD which I've never had problems with. I want something bigger to replace my 32" Toshiba CRT in my living room. Probably won't mount it since I'm renting. Won't play games on it. Just for watching TV with basic cable.

Here are the differences I noticed:
Samsung Zenith
768 rows of vertical pixels 720 rows of vertical pixels
2500:1 contrast ratio 15,000:1 contrast ratiio
width: 45.2 inches width: 51.3 inches
Depth: 13.4 inches depth: 4.2 inches
weight: 56.7 lbs. weight: 95 lbs
Anyone's opinions are helpful. Thanks

I would go for the Samsung DLP over a Zenith plasma any day.

Agreed. I would not trust a Zenith tv at this time, even though I am a big fan of plasma. If you could afford to step up to a Pannasonic, then it would be a definite plasma pick for me.;)

Well, Sears has a Panasonic 56" LIFI LCD Projection tv for $1200 that is 1080p. Do you think that is better than both mentioned before? I went to circuit city last night to compare and I was able to see the difference of 720p vs. 1080p. 720p was very shaded. The guy recommended LCD over plasma & DLP so I'm now looking at finding the cheapest LCD 1080p. Best Buy has a 47" 1080p LCD Westinghouse for $1300. Another brand out there is Sharp Aquos. Any info? The circuit city guy was really pushing Samsung.

I have had a Samsung 50" DLP for over two years now with no problems. Only thing is since getting HD cable we hate to watch SD. Much to my surprise, I never see the wife watching a SD channel when HD is available.

I bought the Samsung DLP after reading as much as i could about plasma & lcd,the big selling point for me with the DLP was the bulb replacement,i like to buy things that are repairable at a reletave low cost, all of what ive read about lcd & plasma is that you'd better buy the extended warrenty & that in most cases its easier & cheaper to just get a new tv unless you bought an expensive model.

Im sure there are relaible lcd's & plasma's but i sure have seen a bunch of dead ones on ebay needing repair, have'nt seen many dlp's needing repair on ebay though.
