Amazon.com Special Offer: $50 Off a Future Purchase

Dear Amazon.com Customer,

As someone who purchased an HD DVD player from us before February 23, 2008,* you might like to hear about a special offer available from Amazon.com.

New technologies don't always work out as planned. We at Amazon.com value our customer relationships more than anything and would like to support customers who purchased these players by offering a credit good for $50 off any products sold by Amazon.com.** Just use promotional code DH6Z-2SJS4T-CB5EL5 when checking out. The code is valid through April 9, 2009, so you have plenty of time to use your credit. Purchases from third-party merchants on our site are not eligible.

This was pretty nice of them. Nobody compelled me to purchase the A2 and I have no complaints. There's always tons of neat stuff on Amazon.

I wonder if Wal Mart will ever do anything like that for the people who bought HD DVD players from them. I would love to get back half the money I spend on my HD A2.

I just got my $50 Best Buy gift card in the mail. If they hadn't taken all the HD DVD's off their shelves I'd have loaded up on them. What to do, what to do?

will they still take it back if the UPC has been cut out for the 5 free movie deal? I knnow I still have the box, and pretty sure I have the receipt as well.

That's a huge thread, but take a read. I think some guys over there did get them to take it back given the widespread free HD DVD rebates on those units requiring the UPC send in.

By the way, I am addicted to that site as well as this one. I buy crap I don't even need if it's a "slickdeal":D Be very, very careful;)

I used to have a RSS reader with their deals always coming in... when I got my new job here I couldn't add the RSS reader since I don't have admin rights to this PC. It's probably saved me a lot of money by not buying stuff I don't need. I'll check the thread out when I get home, since it's blocked by the firewall here at work. Hopefully I can take it back for a full refund, then I can put that money towards a second PS3.

Let us know what happens!
Good luck,

I can't find the receipt, and I'm not the one who actually made the purchase, so I don't even know if I could get a credit card/bank statement that shows the purchase from walmart. I guess I could try to take it back, it still has one of the upc labels in the box, and I could probably try to get store credit, but it seems like too much hassle. The player is still nice, and does a good job of upconverting, so I may just keep it. It would save wear and tear on my PS3, plus the people at my local wal mart aren't the brightest people around, and would likely give me a hassle trying to return it since it's so old, even with the memo.
