5.1 with 3 speakers?

I'm setting up my HT, but have to take time out to watch our amazing Blackhawks. Will I damage the receiver if I use 5.1 mode with only 3 speakers? I have a new Yamaha RX-V773, and don't have time to figure it out right now. TIA!

No, that's fine. It is good to tell the receiver in the 'SETUP->SPEAKER->' section that you only have a front left, front right, and center channel. That way it will automatically convert the 5.1 channel audio to the 3 channels you have available.

You won't damage it doing that, but as BMXTRIX said, telling it you have the front 3 will yield better results.
