As the title implies, I currently have a 5.1 system, and I plan to upgrade to 5.2.4. thanks to this forum, I'm looking at the Denon x4400h for my receiver. The speaker sitting will be in 3 phases: 2nd sub, height pair, and 2nd height pair.

Current sub is an Ultimax 15" in a sealed 4 ft3 box powered by an inuke dsp amp. Second sub will be same run off the other output of the amp. Heights will likely be a DIY coaxial or full range. I'm leaning towards coaxial because of the poor off-axis high frequency response of full range drivers over 3".

If you were making this upgrade, what order would you recommend?

Get the receiver first, then the Atmos Speakers then the Subwoofer last. Do all 4 at the same time. Also take a look at Dolby's website for placement. Going with just 2 vs going 4 they use very different placement.
Atmos is killer man.I think it's the best Audio upgrade that came out in a very long time.

Just did this myself. Ended up going with a Marantz SR6012 instead of the 4400, but that was just because I found one on Accessories4Less for about $700. The Denon is a great receiver. I would also do the 4 speakers together, but why heights vs in-ceiling?

I plan to place my height channels in the ceiling. I thought that's the appropriate place for the Atmos channels and the terms are interchangeable.

If the Marantz 6012 is cheaper, I'll go with that receiver. I've seen them both around the same price. The receiver will probably be a Black Friday purchase.
