5.1 System under 450$ (In Canada)

Hi everybody,

after reading threads for a while, I finaly decided to start my own!

I'm building my first HT system and I've settled on the Pioneer VSX-816 for the receiver. Now I need speakers and I was wondering what was my best option for 450$ or less.

I need a complete 5.1 system with sub (so I could also use the 2 remaining channels on the 7.1 receiver as B speakers in my kitchen)

My room is fairly small (around 12' by 10'), so I think I can go with satelites.

Right now I was considering the Infinity TSS-750, which I can get for 350$ + 60$ Shipping + Tx off the internet. Could I get something better for the same price, or maybe something equivalent but cheaper?

Since I'm in Canada, shipping can kill some deals (subs are heavy...).

Thanks.

Just checked the

future shop website. There is a couple of 5.1 systems on sale currently one is a JBL and the other is a Polk. I would of added the link but it was toooo long:eek:.

Yea I saw the JBL at 300$ CDN. Good price but it's a 6.1 system, I was wondering what to do with the sixth speaker ;)

In fact, I tought I could get a better 5.1 system with a little extra $.

How about the polk rm 6005 it's a 5.1 system also at future shop. If your receiver is only 5.1 this would be a better fit. To be honest most HTIB systems aren't very good either the sat's lack S/Q or the sub is weak. Here is a link to a hsu system but its without a sub if you want better. http://www.electronicsforless.ca/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=267

If your interested ask about the MAP pricing & those Hsu subs are excellent, Good Luck!!

Do you need the entire 5.1 system right now or could you buy it in sections? It would take longer but you would have a much better system in the long run. For example, spend $450 on fronts and center right now, then down the road when you have some extra cash on hand you could get a subwoofer and matching rears or whichever order you prefer. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for the heads up.

I've to admit I'm getting a bit impatient for surround sound so I would like to get the whole system at once.

Best Buy in Canada has the Celestion AVP305 at 199$ now. I never heard of those, but do you think they would make a good system with a AV123 x-sub?

The Infinity TSS-750 also got good reviews.

For Billy P: I've also considered buying the Ventriloquist system directly from HSU, but since it's a 6.1 system I would still have an extra speaker...

that should sound fairly good, for what it's worth, S&V had a positve review of those (can't find it now  ).
Celestion and KEF are owned by the same company.

If you're thinking of going for the Infinity package, that's a good choice IMO. I own an Infinity sub and it's only been good to me. I've never heard Infinity speakers in person but from the quality of the sub I got, I think you won't be disappointed in the Infinity TSS-750.

Well, to sum things up, here are my options:

Celestion sat + AV123 Sub for 400$

Infinity TSS-750 for 350$

Polk RM6750 or similar for 250$

(all excluding shipping and taxes which easily add 100$)

I've to admit I'm tempted by the Infinity since they match my TV, but this price is from a dodgy dealer (Ugotadeal).

are all those prices in CDN or US funds? If you think it's cheaper buying online and from the US, be very sure!!:)

PS: I was going to buy a cd player for about $120.00 US. The shipping alone was $75.00 US and that didn't include all the other cost factors. Wound up buying it here for a little over 200.00 cdn.

Yeah sorry for the confusion, all those prices are in USD. Shipping can be a big factor indeed. It would be great to find a good system in town, but they seem to be much cheaper online...

Future shop has the Polk 6750 on sale for 450.00. If there's a store near you go listen. It's one of your listed systems.
