For my home theatre I have a SPL meter (sound pressure level) that I use to calibrate all the speaker levels to ensure they all match so the surround effects are as balanced as possible. I also have a 5.1 setup for my gaming rig (a flight/racing "cockpit" setup) and would like to do the same - the issue is I can't find a simple 5.1 channel white noise tone generator or a file that would do simply that.
I could use a file that just output white/pink noise to 5.1 channels simultaneously, then just connect/disconnect each speaker independently, leveling each in software to a common level or, better yet, have an app that would generate the tone for the specific channel one by one. I'm pretty shocked I can't find anything like this, and I've done a good deal of searching.
I have found a few test/reference files that go through each channel to ensure I'm getting 5.1 but they are so quick (just "front left", "front center", "front right", etc) that I can't set a level using them. I suppose if I could find a rip/download of a calibration disk/movie/file I could make something like that work too.
What am I missing? I'm pretty stunned I can't find this - I know the most modern A/V receivers have tone generators (and even external calibration mics) included but for a DIY PC setup what are the best methods? Thanks for any help you can provide!
