5.1 surround sound pre-wired.

Hi Folks,

I'm new to this forum so pls pardon me if this is repetitive.

I've recently purchased a home and my home theater is pre wired to 5.1 surrond sound in living room and one more room downstairs. I believe they both are independently pre-wired. I wanted to know if there is any way i could connect the two 5.1 surrond sound to a common source so i can listen to the same music downstairs as well. Does this make sense ?

The other part of the question is if i can connect the two together to a common source can i operate them individually as well. Meaning if i'm watching TV upstairs and i do not wish the sound to be heard from the downstairs speakers. Can this be done ?

Please help me with ur advise.

Does the placement of the equipment in the basement and upstairs make it seem impossible to run cables between the two systems? If it seems possible and you're able to, run a pair of coax with RCA ends and use the digital out/in on each receiver. If it's hard or impossible to run cabling, the Apple Airport Express is a good way to get signal from one place to another.
