5.1 Recommendations?

Hey-O!

I just purchased the Onkyo TX-SR608 receiver and I'm trying to find a speaker package to pair it with. I was told to buy the energy take classics 5.1, but they are discontinued and cost way too much now. I was looking at the polk RM510 setup, but was curious if anything in that price range is a better option. I'm looking to spend around $400 or less. I'd prefer a 5.1 setup b/c my apartment isn't huge and 7.1 is kind of overkill for my situation. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

$400 for decent 5.1? You'd be better off starting with 2.1 and expanding it later on to 5.1....

I would start with 2.1 and expand later as BoredSysAdmin suggested, however, if you want 5.1 now, Vann's is having a clearance on Jamo speakers.

If the GF isn't down with the grill-less speakers, do you have any other suggestions? I think the 2.1 setup is a good idea

But yes, a 2.1 system with the same budget will get you much better quality vs quantity.

This is a great suggestion. It just relies on finding the Infinities on sale to get in under $500 with shipping.

Another option is you can often find Boston Acoustics CS26 bookshelves for $80 each online. Add the Dayton sub that Bored suggested and you have a decent 2.1 system for $400 shipped. The Bostons are rear ported so you'll want to leabe a bit of room behind them and around them. Later you can add a CS225C center for $150.

I vote of the Infinity Towers plus the Dayton sub. Add to it later.

I just bought the Dayton Sub-120 and am anxiously waiting to hook it up. I was originally thinking about getting a second one down the line, but would the Jamo pair ok with it? Can you mix and match subs?
