5.1 involves which speakers?

Hello, this is probably an easy question for most of you. I have a 5.1 setup and I plugged the speakers in the back to the SBL and SBR connectors. I figured that was right because SURROUND BACK meant they were in the back. However, when I tried playing a movie (Star Wars Episode II), nothing was coming from my rear speakers. Should I plug the speakers instead into the SL and SR connectors?

Thanks,
Alra111

Yes. Surround back are for 7.1 configurations. If you're just running 5.1, you should connect your surrounds to the Surround L and R jacks.

Yep. 5.1 is center, front-left, front-right, surround-left, and surround-right (with the subwoofer being the .1). 7.1 adds the two surround-back channels, which would actually be positioned fully behind the viewing position.

Which isn't even an option in my setup.. my couch is against the wall, so putting speakers behind it would be a challenge. :)

I went from 5.1 to 7.1, so I can't comment on 6.1.
Sure, it sounds better. If your room will work for the extra 1 or 2 speakers I think it's well worth the money. If your reciever is 7.1, why stop at 6.1? A good number of speakers are only sold in pairs anyway......... At least the ones I can afford.;)

I went 6.1. It was mainly bad advice from a salesguy, and I was particularly green at the time, so I didn't question him. My rear centre is actually a centre speaker, the Athena C1 (sold singly). It sounds great to me, having it back there, and I DO think it adds something. Sure, I wish I HAD gone 7.1, but ain't nothing shabby about 6.1. I love mine.

cheers,

I'm also 6.1 I like it. I wouldn't go out of my way to have it, but for LOTR it sure is fun.
