I'm trying to configure a decent 5.1 system for my bedroom, 50% for movies and 50% for music. My budget is around $2,000.

The issue is this. My wife and I will usually be lying down when using the system and the left/right speakers will be about 4 feet beyond the footboard of the bed. The footboard is rather tall so it will block most of the sound coming from floorspeakers.

Am I better off just going with something like the Klipsch Quintet because it's easy to direct the sound to where we will be or is there another way to go about this? Additionally, how much difference is there in the listening experience for the average novice between something like the quintet versus the RB-51 II?

thanks

Here's another thought. Can I mount bookshelf speakers in the corner of the room by the ceiling and angle them towards me? Does that do anything to hurt the sound?

got a pic or drawing of the room?

My current bedroom system consists of...
MARANTZ NR1402 Slimline 5.1ch AV Receiver w/HDMI & 3D-ready | Accessories4less
STF-1 Subwoofer
KEF HTF7003 Home Theater Sound Bar | Accessories4less

then for surrounds a pair of omd5's Mirage OMD 5 Speakers Brand New Beautiful Rosewood Finish Very RARE 029303140350 | eBay I know they are expensive for surrounds, and HARD to find, but I noticed these speakers do not care where you put them they get the sound to you no matter what...

I am playing with the sound bar system, and I like it, in the bedroom its hard to talk the wife into full towers and a center channel , lol although I had that for a while and just put this all together, that sound bar rocks.... Also the marantz slimline is nice for a bedroom, and the small hsu sub does the job {and my bedroom is huge}... I think this is the system I will keep, I have played with ascend 200s in the front and some energy books for surrounds, but this is the best by far... Not quite $2000 but I am very happy with it...

For surrounds the nanosat or mx mirages work good too and cost less, but I had this set of omd-5s and they are furniture grade{very well made} so I went with them...
I have my surrounds on the night stands they sound great...

I have a separate system for music and obviously the soundbar may not be wonderful for music.

A good bedroom system for movies and music is...
5 ascend 200se's instead of the soundbar, I would still use the slimline and the stf sub...

the bedroom is 15' x 15'.
15x15 so 225 sq feet with 9 ft ceilings?

I am kind of stuck on not putting a full sized system in a bedroom since my wife complained about it, and our bedroom is over 400sq feet. with your budget you should look into HSU subs, Ascend speakers, and a decent AVR like the pioneer sc-63
Pioneer 7.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver $684

2 ascend 170se's for the front, 1 340se for the center, and 2 200se for the surrounds comes to $880 shipped

and that leaves you enough money for an HSU STF2 sub and all the cables you will need... that will be a great system, and the 170s for music sound awesome especially when backed up with a sub...
