5.0 system with "true" 50Hz response

With the thought of the new, larger EMP center coming out, I started questioning my current setup and am thinking ahead. Right now, the system in my signature comfortably crosses over with my sub at 80Hz, but I was wondering which line of speakers would get me respectable output down to 50Hz. And not just based upon the manufacture's specs, but which really dig down there to where crossing at 50 would be ok (towers, center, and bookshelves)?

As seen in the review of the E55ti's, there is solid output down to 50Hz, but would I be making a huge leap from my current E5ti's in terms of extension?

Let's just say budget is somewhat conscious, but I'm willing to spend a little more if it's worth it. I'm just looking for speakers that will really suck me in, and allow me to cross over globally at 50. Thanks

A crossover at 50hz means you need smooth output at least an octave below that.

Phase also becomes an issue because to get this low with normal speakers you need ports. Trying to blend a port sound with a subwoofer is not as easy as blending a speaker sound with a subwoofer.

A global crossover to subs at 50hz thus means you need someething like five linkwitz orions all around, or something along those lines.

There's really no advantage to it.

Well what do most sub manufacturers generally recommend crossing their subs to? I know THX standard is 80Hz, but I've seen manufacturers recommend going lower to 60 or even 50Hz.

Also, what do I have to gain then by upgrading to EMP's larger towers and center? Just more output? Does bass response in towers not matter as much then if you're going to crossover to 80Hz? I really don't have much experience with other speakers than EMP's, but when you start paying more for other speakers, what else are you paying for?

Please keep in mind that the lower you set your crossover settings (Leaving speaker blending aside for the moment) the harder your receiver/amp has to work and the better chance you have driving it into clipping.

I have been playing around for the last couple of days with my settings and have have it crossed at 50 hz. I set my mains to large and it seems like I am getting even a more fuller sound. Like I said I am just playing around.

Well my reason for questioning things is that in the review of the E55ti's, the comment was made that they won't throw a lot of deep bass or high energy at you like other speakers may. I was just curious then, well what else is out there if you spend a little more money, and does it even matter if you crossover your sub at 80Hz? I love the sound of my EMP's right now, but obviously more output, extension, and better imaging interest me. So for that, am I better off to stay with the same company but go for the bigger speakers, or look elsewhere?

This http://www.sourcespeaker.com/2268.html is the speaker company I've been using for the last 20 years. But you will not get these results with an AVR. You'll need at least 350 watts per channel. Everything comes with a price.

Sorry if I've just been rambling, I guess I'm just looking for something new but I think the EMP's are a pretty good bang for my buck setup. I suppose without auditioning other speakers, it's difficult to understand what else is out there for the extra cash, and what exactly you gain by spending more than I did.

My speakers are very clear, kind of laid back but with a ton of midrange, and they crossover very well with my sub.. Sometimes you just get a little bored tho and wonder what else you can do
