I don't want another Shakespeare in Love type situation. One of the most overrated movies in history. I think Sinners should win a couple. The massive number of nominations for Sinners is a bit much. It was a good movie and deserved to be nominated, but 16 is way too many. Haven't seen Frankenstein yet but hear it's really good. F1 deserves for cinematography and directing. Don't even know what The Secret Agent is. I still haven't seen One battle after another. I'm guessing that will win some awards. They're trying to push it hard to win the big ones.

In the end, the Oscars are a joke anyways. They lost all credibility about 15 or so years ago. They no longer award the actual best for anything. Just who makes the most noise. Most of the people that actually get to vote on these winners don't even watch all the movies that are out there. Some don't even watch the entire movie; they'll just stop it and move on. I think one thing they could do to spice things up to actually get some viewers would be to bring Ricky Gervais in as the host. I think he would be perfect right now. :D
I hated “Shakespheare in love”. :D

I also hated “Sinners”.

My copy is supposed to show up today. Did you get your copy of Ben-Hur yet? I will be watching that in the coming weeks. Looking forward to it! I've only heard great things about this new 4k release and, I hate to admit this, I've never seen it! I've only seen bits of the chariot races. :)

Others that showed up today are A Beautiful Mind (great flick), All the President's Men, and two Van Damme movies Double Impact and Knock Off.

Finally watched One Battle after Another. It's definitely PTA's most "hollywoodized" movie to date. I think Leo did a great job, as usual. I also liked Del Toro's character as well. From all the comments I've seen since its release, it's either going to be a love it or hate it kind of movie. I might be one of the few that is in the middle. I didn't LOVE it nor did I hate it. I thought it was good. I enjoyed the acting from all the main characters. I'm not a Sean Penn fan by any means, but I will give him his due in this movie. He went all in his character, and it paid off. Directing and cinematography was also top notch, as usual from a PTA movie. I know directors have to change things up every now and again, so this is where PTA went this time around. I do hope he returns to his more period piece type films going forward.

I'm going to give the movie an 8/10. If Leo wasn't the lead, it would be a 7/10. :)

I am also in the middle. That is not an Oscar contender in my book. The performances are great, but the story is pretty average.

Saw Ben Hur when I was a kid. Did not find it necessary to pick that one up. We'll see.

I just saw Predator Badlands 4K Atmos.

Awesome 4K video and Atmos audio quality.

I love the story. Will be watching this movie many more times. So different than all the other Predator movies. Love it.
I saw this the other day. I’m still not sure how I feel about the story. Looked and sounded great, but the kinder gentler predator? I don’t know…. It is fun to see another aspect, and story line. Not exactly an origin story, but definitely a little back story. I did love Prey. Will definitely watch it. Again….lol

Well, most Predators seem like pure killers of killers. But as with other species, I would think they have some differences among them.

All the other Predator movies have the same story - Alien hunt humans, humans fight back and win.

But Badlands’ story is completely different.

I watched the movie Thursday (4K/24P, HDR, Atmos downmixed to 5.1). The only negative thing I have to say is the first fight in the cave was too dark. I liked the story line. The comic relief was good, but it almost got cutesy at one point like it was a Star Wars moment. I've been a fan of the franchise since opening night of the first movie. I think Trachtenberg has done a really good job with both Prey and Badlands. I hope he continues.

I think Trachtenberg is trying to appeal to a wider audience.

I have seen every Predator movie, and my wife has hated every one of them in the past. But she actually likes Badlands. A little less macho testosterone, a little more female appeal, a little lighter in mood.

My favorite Predator movie is still “Predators 2010” starring 2-time Academy Awards Best Main Actor winner Adrien Brody, Laurence Fishburne, Walton Goggins, Alice Braga, Topher Grace - by far the absolute best acting class in the entire Predator-Alien franchise. :D

Killer of Killers is also Tratchenberg; indirectly ties into Badlands and presumably the next film will bring those two together. Killer of Killers ties Predator 1, 2 Prey and Badlands together.

I am aware of it, but I have not seen it....yet. I've seen the 'medieval' predator movie on youtube. The only movie I haven't seen is "The Predator" (2018). At some point I'll have to get a copy and check it out.

The 2018 one is entertaining enough. Better than expected, but not great. The ending leaves some interesting things open, but not sure that needs to go anywhere.

Having the guys over for a "final" movie night at the current place, as they have not heard the system since I added the BMRs. That means pizza and a lot of the tastiest random beer each of us can find. Movie night became sort of a "find an obscure beer that none of us has ever tried" event. We will be watching Predator: Badlands :D

Shelter 2026 4K. Jason Statham.

Story - among the dumbest
Writing- among the dumbest
Dialogue- among the dumbest
Acting - among the worst
Annoyance level - extremely high :D

I thought Statham is smart enough by now to be in decent movies. But wow. This movie is so so bad. :D

The video looks good. DDP5.1 sounds good. But everything else is just horrible.

Just saw “Under Siege 1992” 4K ATMOS (Steven Seagal vs Tommy Lee Jones, release by ARROW).

PQ. It’s an older analog film transferred to 4K digital, so doesn’t look great compared to newer movies, but still not too bad. I think very watchable even for me. :D So Arrow did a nice job.

SQ. It’s okay. Sound overhead sounds when they were talking on intercom. Not great, not too bad.

Plot/Story. It’s a Steven Seagal movie. :D So not awesome, but still fun to watch. It helps having a super model woman next to him on screen for almost the entire movie as his sidekick. :D

I hope Arrow will also release “Under Siege 2 - Dark Territory” (on the train this time) in 4K ATMOS. :D

I saw Netflix’s “War Machine 2026” 4K ATMOS.

PQ. Looks great.

SQ. I think it was good, might have heard some overhead sound. But can’t be too sure since I have some sinus congestion/allergies. :D

Story/Writing/Movie. I like it a lot. I would re-watch this movie. I think it’s a fun movie to watch, although it has more tragic moments than happy moments.

Watched Sisu: Road to Revenge 4k a couple of weeks ago. Was pretty good. Not as good as the first one, but still entertaining. If you love over the top action, Sisu 2 delivers in spades.

Watched the recent release Hamnet on 4k last night. I went in basically blind. Thought it was just a normal love story type of movie. Wrong, it was a damn gut punch of sadness. Someone must've been cutting onions cause my eyes were a bit watery..... :D It was a very good movie. Very well done. Not your typical William Shakespeare type of flick. More "real life" like. The Director really put you in the time period. The brutal nature of the last 1500's. The main actress Jessie Buckley gave an outstanding performance as Agnes (Williams wife). I believe this movie will win some Oscars. Jessie Buckley for sure. I highly recommend this movie. Solid 9/10 for me.

I told you so. :D

That’s why I said “Hamnet” should win Best Picture and Best Director. This movie puts all other 2025 movies to SHAME. None of these other 2025 nominees can hold a candle. No competition. So if “Hamnet” doesn’t win, then the Oscars is just a bunch of morons. :D

It definitely should win some awards. Easily Best Actress.
