I don't want another Shakespeare in Love type situation. One of the most overrated movies in history. I think Sinners should win a couple. The massive number of nominations for Sinners is a bit much. It was a good movie and deserved to be nominated, but 16 is way too many. Haven't seen Frankenstein yet but hear it's really good. F1 deserves for cinematography and directing. Don't even know what The Secret Agent is. I still haven't seen One battle after another. I'm guessing that will win some awards. They're trying to push it hard to win the big ones.

In the end, the Oscars are a joke anyways. They lost all credibility about 15 or so years ago. They no longer award the actual best for anything. Just who makes the most noise. Most of the people that actually get to vote on these winners don't even watch all the movies that are out there. Some don't even watch the entire movie; they'll just stop it and move on. I think one thing they could do to spice things up to actually get some viewers would be to bring Ricky Gervais in as the host. I think he would be perfect right now. :D
I hated “Shakespheare in love”. :D

I also hated “Sinners”.

Predator Badlands 4K finally showed up. Will check it out tonight.
My copy is supposed to show up today. Did you get your copy of Ben-Hur yet? I will be watching that in the coming weeks. Looking forward to it! I've only heard great things about this new 4k release and, I hate to admit this, I've never seen it! I've only seen bits of the chariot races. :)

Others that showed up today are A Beautiful Mind (great flick), All the President's Men, and two Van Damme movies Double Impact and Knock Off.

Finally watched One Battle after Another. It's definitely PTA's most "hollywoodized" movie to date. I think Leo did a great job, as usual. I also liked Del Toro's character as well. From all the comments I've seen since its release, it's either going to be a love it or hate it kind of movie. I might be one of the few that is in the middle. I didn't LOVE it nor did I hate it. I thought it was good. I enjoyed the acting from all the main characters. I'm not a Sean Penn fan by any means, but I will give him his due in this movie. He went all in his character, and it paid off. Directing and cinematography was also top notch, as usual from a PTA movie. I know directors have to change things up every now and again, so this is where PTA went this time around. I do hope he returns to his more period piece type films going forward.

I'm going to give the movie an 8/10. If Leo wasn't the lead, it would be a 7/10. :)

I am also in the middle. That is not an Oscar contender in my book. The performances are great, but the story is pretty average.

Saw Ben Hur when I was a kid. Did not find it necessary to pick that one up. We'll see.
