Yeah, I totally get that point of view and I’m not critical of many popcorn movies. Legacy just came up short. It should have been cooler and darker than it was but some things were just off. Sam and Quorra were bores and the digitally de-aged Jeff Bridges as CLU was just rough.

Now, as far as stupid actions concerning killers on the loose, I recently watched “HUNTER HUNTER” for October horror month and was frustrated with the behaviors of many characters. But, it was intense and the ending was f#%ked up! Not for the faint of heart that one.

I am sure everyone has their own preference regarding the movie characters, which absolutely determines how they like the movie.

I didn’t find them boring or exciting - just normal everyday-characters in an abnormal (Sci-Fi) situation.

But yeah, I can understand that if you don’t like the characters, then you probably won’t like the movie.

Tron Ares was GREAT. The story is relatively thin, like Legacy, meaning it is a semi-rehash of the original story. It tracks though, and fits in well, with the exception of some character changes. I didn't think the acting was bad. My idea of bad acting is Rebel Moon. Legacy and Ares are leagues above that.

Ares is more directly tied to the original than Legacy, but it has ties to Legacy as well. We saw it in IMAX 3D, and I would highly recommend that as the best format to see it in. I don't watch too many movies in 3D these days, but this one is impressive visually, just as Legacy was. Legacy was one of the best 3D films done, because the light / dark contrast, it just looks great. Ares is the same, but the real world scenes also look very good.

I think the reason it isn't doing as well as it could is because people are not familiar enough with the original because it is old. The expectation, like Marvel's mistake with tie-ins, is that you need to have seen the original. They give you a 10 minute "catch you up" sequence that is not sufficient to get you all the info. While we were walking out, I heard people actually say "Apparently, there was a first movie in the 80s?" That will cause confusion for sure, since this one directly ties to it. There are a LOT of fun throwbacks to the original that people won't get if they aren't familiar with it.

If you are a Tron fan, this one is worth seeing in the theater.

Kosinski did write a sequel to legacy, but it was scrapped.

We got there early because the restaurant we went to wasn't busy, so we stopped in at the AMC bar and got the Tron Ares drink, a red Margarita.

The popcorn bucket is very cool, but WAY too expensive and big. Looks like it is online only, as they did not have it at the theater.

I have heard the 3D is very, very good. Take story, acting out, the 3D is worth the admission. Even the people that disliked the movie said, "you have to go just to see how great it looks in 3D".

We might try to go this upcoming weekend.

Nice. Went to Horror Nights there a few years in a row but have not been for a long time. Was Universal IMAX sold out?

IMAX was pretty full, but not sold out. We went to the 9pm show though, because we got into LA in the afternoon.

We have gone the last ~10yrs or so to HHN. This was one of the better ones recently. The Terrifier maze was pretty good, as was Poltergeist - better than the previous version of it. Attendance appears to be down, so it also was not totally wall to wall people, despite being sold out. I have not seen people show up at the gate expecting to buy tickets, since most nights usually sell out, but there were quite a few this time.

Saw Ares on Sat. HHN on Sunday. We usually eat at City Walk then go in.

We went with a different crowd to see Ares again, this time in Dolby Cinema 3D. Still stunning. The theater was half empty. This movie is going to lose a lot of money and seal the fate of Tron. I'd highly recommend seeing it in theaters while you still can.

I just read this morning that Tron: Ares is going to lose Disney over $132m. Yeah, I think this is the final Tron for a long time. Maybe in 10-15 years, they might try again.

Well, them going with Jared Leto was not a good idea. The last 10 years of Leto has not been good. That was their first mistake. Second, was not following up from Legacy. The 3D market is a niche market. You'll never get the masses to show up for 3D movies. The studios have been trying 3D the 15 years. I remember going to bunch back in the 2012-2014's. Theaters were never full, even on opening nights.

I think Tron: Ares will find its place on physical media. Similar to Tron: Legacy. Even though Legacy made a ton more compared to Ares. I do hope they release the 3D version of Ares. Will probably be released internationally, but let's hope US gets a version.

One Battle after another was never going to earn its' budget back. No PTA movie has ever made back its budget. This is the largest opening and successful (financially) PTA movie to date. WB is pushing it and putting it in Imax, Dolby etc... because they want it to get nominated for a ton of awards. I will wait for physical to watch it. I'm a PTA fan. I'm trying to stay away from all the debate surrounding it. Trying to go in "blind" and judge for myself.
