Ericsson this week is the latest company to highlight their progress with LTE Advanced, the next generation of the LTE standard. According to an Ericsson press release, the company has conducted tests in Sweden that resulted in speeds ten times faster than currently deployed LTE networks in the country. The technology, which Ericsson states will be on sale sometime in 2013, operated on a test frequency provided by the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency -- allowing the company to demonstrate LTE Advanced functionality such as carrier aggregation of 3 x 20MHz (60MHz aggregated) wirelessly for the first time. Using these three channels and MIMO functionality, the company says they were able to achieve download speeds up to about 940 Mbps. Current LTE networks are theoretically capable of speeds up to 150 Mbps, though most implementations see only a fraction of LTE's full potential.
