Looking to purchase an LCD for my son. Used mostly for gaming. Which is the better deal?
Samsung LN40A530 at BB for $799.00
or
Philips 42PFL3603D/F7 at Walmart for $797.00
both are 1080p
Thanks for any feedback.

I would go with the Samsung, i have the same one and i love it and have not had any problems. Only game i noticed ghosting on was GTA4

Thats also a great deal, when i got mine in october it was around 1200

I would get the Samsung. My brother has a Phillips LCD and it looks decent after I calibrated it. They have some really bad default settings that make the display look terrible out of the box. My gf has a sammy lcd and it looks pretty darn good considering the price. Better than my bro's Phillips.

That ghosting your seeing is probably not the panel, but the game itself. I noticed an odd blurring in that game even on my plasma screen. I think it's a feature built into the game that makes the low frame rate of console systems less noticeable when it's trying to render a detailed atmosphere very quickly.

Yeah I would go for the Sammy.

And I think its actually one of the effects of the game as I play a myriad of games on my HTPC in my sig and I get the same effect with GTAIV and my system runs it perfectly maxed out.

If I'm reading the specs on cnet correctly the max resolution that Samsung supports is 1080i. I doubt that's the case, but check it out anyway. Regardless of what you find, get the Samsung.

Thanks for all your input. You made up my mind for me. Went for the Samsung.
