Go to pcconnection.com have a look. Our rep at pc connection tells me it is built by LG. It looks to good to be true.

I saw the same item on E-Bay (also mid-June delivery) for $ 1999 opening bid, $ 2199 instant buy. Looks like one heck of a deal if you can get a decent warranty with it.

be careful

Your rep is probably telling you a half truth. There is a good chance that the glass is made by LG since there are only a handful of plasma glass makers who OEM for everyone else. My guess would be at that price it is a Korean import. Those are known to be the throw away plasma sets. kind of like the very low end Tube sets you see in grocery and drug stores. Even though they will have a high contrast glass the video processor is usually crap. It wont handle movement very well and will have very little protection from burn in, which would make it a bad idea for video games. Also ask about the warranty. Most if not all on-line companies send you to the manufacturor or a second party where you are responsible for un-installing the unit, shipping it both ways, and reinstalling it.

One other thing about that particular set. The DVI input is not HDCP compliant(at least it is not in the specs). Without HDCP compliance your DVI input can only be used for a computer. A DVD player, cable box, or satellite rec. will not work(through the DVI).

Bottom line is you'll probably get exactly what you pid for.

RUN AWAY!
Other than it's inexpensive what specific information do you have for your comments? Without support for your assertions they have no value IMO.

nick250,
You asked for our comments. You said yourself it looks to good to be true. If comments from people who sell and install these things daily are of no value to you, then by all means- buy it.
Good luck.

Sorry Nick250,
I was having a bad morning. The truth of the matter is the TV is cheap for a reason. It may be sufficient for a second TV but for a primary not so good. These companies cut a lot of corners in processing to get the price low. A good deal could quickly become a total waste of money. Think about it, if your rep was correct and the unit is totaly LG, how could this co. OEM from them and sell it for $1000 less? If you have enough in your budget for that unit, save another grand and get a TV you'll be happy with. :)

I bought an ultra "cheap" LCD 20" for $350 for my PC that also doubles as a tv - has it's own tuner. I was looking at 26" JVC LCD's for $1600 and after viewing them side by side using a PC feed, there was no difference. Actually, the text was much better with the Olevia for $350. Now DVD's looked a little better, and you get 6" of more screen. But with the limited warranty of the JVC's vs the 1 yr with this set, I can buy a lot of cheap sets for what the JVC would have run me. Plus, for a pc or bedroom unit, it's perfect. I'd say go with the $1399 Plasma for a bedroom set. It's not going to burn up because you won't use it but a few hours a night. If you have a HD tuner, the picture will be outstanding, other than the color may be less vibrant than a Pioneer Elite or Hitachi, but than again, look at how much you're paying. This technology is changing so fast, and prices are dropping so quickly, it's crazy to drop big money on these sets. LCD, for instance. Just last year, 32" sets were selling for $2500 and up. I just saw a few for $899 and $999 at Micro Center. Most of these units have very similar guts. You want a good warranty, and a good side by side demo when buying one. But for a second room, unless you're made out of money, get the cheaper units.
