40GB PS3 + game + $100 Walmart gift card for $452 plus $12 shipping

Deals on video game hardware seem exceedingly rare, so I thought I'd post this here, particularly for anyone eyeing the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player. They make you buy a game with it, but the selection is pretty good (GTA IV). The price is technically not a discount, but a $100 gift card more than makes up for that.

Oh, turns out you don't even need to add a game if you don't want to. So $399 plus tax/shipping for the 40GB console and the $100 gift card (which of course you could then turn around and spend on games/BDs).

I had been waiting around for some type of deal. The gift card is an online only gift card but I suppose you could purchase a gift card online if you really wanted to.

This is available in-store as well and it was in their ad today (Sunday 6/1/08). They are also supposed to have a similar deal next Sunday on the Panasonic BD 30. $448 with a $100 gift card. That's what I was looking for but it's not available this week so hopefully next weekend as one of their Father's Day specials.

You just repeated the above post.:D

And you can only use the Card for Blu-ray based purchases. A 2.5" SATA HDD isn't on the list of freebies you can get with the PS3.

Take it from a guy with a biased opinion about Best Buy, get it from Wal-Mart.:D
That's what happens when you read a post and don't refresh the page while you're researching. ;)

My bad.

As for the gift card I've been hearing that you can use it at wal-mart for anything, but the ad says specifically for BD only.

Supposedly the BB GC is for anything at BB. I'd prefer that option.

I'm having a tough time deciding myself...

Some people are saying the WM gift card is for anything, but the ad specifically says blu-ray only. If I go with BB I can get whatever.

I just don't want to drive all around town wasting gas to find out.

I feel like Wal-Mart is generally pretty lax in such restrictions, anyway. You wait for the right (elderly) cashier and it's smooth sailing. But I guess BB is the better option regardless.

Well, after some serious consideration I think I'm actually just going to order a BD optical drive for my PC and use that. :)

I'm 99% sure it's a Blu Ray-themed GC. Like the ones you buy that have a cartoon speaker or video games or whatever. They look like they're pointed towards a certain purchase, but you can use them for anything. It's just a Wal-Mart card with a Blu-Ray ad on it, basically.

Edit: Confirmed. People on Slick Deals have mentioned buying movies, games, and other things with their Wal-Mart GC from the deal.

I just got home with mine an hour ago. The gift card is good on anything at Wal-Mart.
