IMO any of the major players in the receiver market will fill the bill equally well. Dennon, Onkyo, Yamaha, that's where I would look. The only thing to check for is if the receiver has all the right inputs and outputs that you want. I have a Denon 1602 that I think I paid about $350 for a couple of years ago and I use it daily and no troubles. I also have a Onkyo 595 (paid $450) I got about 5 years ago and again no troubles. On thing is that the Onkyo is much easier to tweek the settings while the Denon is the pain in the butt.

Yamaha HTR-5860

For about $350, you should be able to find the Yamaha HTR-5860 new from an authorized dealer. I have one and would recommend it.

Then take the left over money and have a Kegger. This is just as good as any of the others out there, ask Mrty and Wmax.
Sorry, I can not endorse this product. I have no knowledge of the characteristic objective performance of Insignia products. The power rating may be fraudulent and the device may even have a high inherant noisefloor.

Well what about the Kegger? Can you endorse that?

Here's a vote for the Panasonic SA-XR55S. These Equibit digital amplification receivers have a low noisefloor, clear sound and a good amount of power for the dollar.

I would check to see if UBID is a authorized dealer.. if not, no warranty from Yamaha.

Dont overlook the Pioneer's at this price point. I believe the VSX-915 would fall right into your budget. Its a 7.1 system and at 110 per channel is loaded with features. :)

I have a Yamaha HTR-5850 AV receiver and i like it a lot. It is 630 watts, 6.1, so 105 per channel. I got it for about $300.

They are an authorized dealer - reseller for many companies. Yamaha does not allow any online warranties on their RX-V products (through Yamaha - new or refurb), so it's quite amazing that Ubid is allowing even a 30 day warranty on this product. For the money you save, you can afford a repair should something happen. If I were looking for a receiver, I'd be all over the RX-V 2500 at under $500. That is truly a steal - considering the RX-V 2600 is retailing at $1399.

Personally, Denon and Marantz are my favorites... but there's nothing wrong with either Yamaha or Pioneer. Factory refurbished isn't a bad way to go as long as you get a factory warranty to back it up; otherwise I'd shy away. I'd also stay away from "no name" brands. Sure, you might get lucky and get a decent rig for a great price... but you could wind up with a piece of junk and no one to back you up with warranty service. Personally, I wouldn't take the chance. Wait until the brand and the company have been around for a few years and have a reputation built on product, service, and customer satisfaction.

We're I in your shoes, I'd take a look at the Denon AVR-1906, which you can get for $365, and possibly even less if you look around.
