4 Ohm Sub w/ 8 Ohm system

I recently put together a sub woofer (nht 1259 with a KG 5230 Amp). The sub is a 4 ohm sub, and the sub amp is a 300w amp. I have hooked this up to my Yamaha rx-v1400 and the sub seems to start cracking and/or fluttering at intense parts of movies. Could there be a problem where the rx-v1400 only allows for 6-8 ohms speakers, or does this not matter when I'm using a line in to the sub amp???

Is it a vented enclosure? sounds like its bottoming out.

Have you tried it with a different amp? Sounds like maybe it doesnt have enough damping. What load is the amp rated to drive?

It's not a problem with your yamaha, so I would find another amp to try. you might want to take the woofer out and inspect it, you may have damaged it.

You're either sending a clipped signal to the sub or bottoming it out.
