Hello,
I have found a Wharfedale Moviestar 70 home theater speaker system In decent shape - almost new! Problem is, that satellite speakers are rated at 4 Ohm, but the media centre Yamaha YMC-700 is rated 6 Ohm!
May I connect surround set without damaging either the amp or set itself?
THANK YOU!

Welcome to Audioholics.
Your situation is exactly why it recommended to buy speakers first, and then find a compatible receiver / amp to drive them.

Understanding it's not a perfect world, here's my less than perfect answer.:D
If you've already purchased the speakers.... the way to use them without burning out your receiver would be as follows.
Don't try to listen at loud levels and forget about filling a large room with sound.
The louder you turn it up the hotter it will get.
Monitor the heat coming from the top of the unit, if it gets too hot, turn it down or shut it off.
Give it plenty of breathing room, hopefully it's not in an enclosed cabinet.
I'd add one or two flat computer fans on top, and pull the air up and out.
Judging from the lite weight of that Yamaha, it doesn't have much in the way of heat sinking.
Good luck and be careful out there.

I googled the Whar's specs and found that the 70+'s are 4 ohms but the 70 are rated 8 ohms nominal. Actually most satellite speakers cannot play loud anyway. Besides, they are rated -6 dB 120 to 20,000 hz so if you crossover at 150 hz you don't need much power for them. However, the YMC-700 does not seem to offer much power so like they said, be careful and go easy on the volume knob.
