If I were to purchase this unit now, would I have to upgrade the firmware or would have already been done? Does this unit have onscreen display via HDMI? Does this unit upconvert any analog/digital signal to 1080P?

I doubt they are being shipped with the updated firmware that gives you the Dynamic Volume and EQ....it does have the GUI over the HDMI which is absolutely fantastic!!! Now as for your last question, I am almost positive that it upconverts all signals if you tell it to...

It really is a fantastic AVR....you will not be dissapointed...

You have to pay $100 for the new features of Audessey Dynamic Volume and Dynamic EQ if you want them though - unless you buy new from an authorized dealer before March 31, in which case you can get a rebate for the upgrade.

That's the problem. My computer & my tv system are near each other.

That is not a problem. Go get a cheap, long ethernet cable, run it through the house, connect to the AVR run the update, unplug the cable, wind it up and put it in the storgae closet for the next year or two.

Does the 3808 pass HDMI to Zone 2 Component out? For example:

Wife watches TV (HDMI or comp to 3808, I don't care) on bedroom LCD (Zone 2 Component Out).

I purchased a 50' ethernet cable from monoprice for cheap to plug into my 3808ci...one end to my modem and other to 3808ci. I keep it connected all the time so I can check for updates plus play the internet radio whenever I want.
